Our School
Welcome
Carver Elementary School is located within the city limits, on the west side of Florence, South Carolina. It is one of the 14 elementary schools in Florence 1 Schools. Carver consists approximately of 550 students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. The faculty and staff consist of full-time teachers, speech therapists, a nurse, classroom assistants, office staff, custodians, cafeteria staff, and part-time occupational therapists. Carver also has a guidance counselor, a part-time behavioral specialist, a psychologist, an ESL specialist and a media specialist. The principal and assistant principal work closely with a Curriculum/Technology Coordinator, and Literacy Coach.
Carver was originally built over 50 years ago in 1952. In 1996, a new Carver building was constructed within five minutes of the original school.

My name is Mrs. Mary Smith. I am the Assistant Principal at Carver. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Carver. I hope that you are very excited to be a part of this magnificent school. Carver is truly a great place to learn.
My goal is to inspire and to motivate students to learn and to be prosperous in all aspects of their lives. I will work with parents, teachers, and other staff members to ensure our students experience academic success in a safe and conducive environment. My name is Tara Hoffmeyer. I am Curriculum/Technology Coordinator at Carver. I graduated from Coker College with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2012. I graduated with a Master degree of Curriculum and Instructional Technology from Coker College in 2018. Prior to becoming the Curriculum/Technology Coordinator at Carver, I spent four years as a third grade teacher and four years as a fourth grade teacher. As the curriculum coordinator, I will collaborate with teachers to prepare technology-enhanced lessons that incorpoate the curriculum. Also, I will work closely with students to promote a STEM growth mindset in the classroom. I am excited for a new year at Carver.
